Cairn’s Gear Up, Give Back Program
Contributes $27k to Conservation Alliance,
Announces 2020 Beneficiary Outdoors for All

Gear Up, Give Back program keeps retired outdoor gear and apparel
out of landfills while generating funds for outdoor causes.

BEND, Oregon (January 14, 2020) — Now in its second year of operation, Cairn’s Gear Up, Give Back program wrapped up 2019 with a total annual contribution to the program beneficiary, the Conservation Alliance, of more than $27k, which includes a $10k match from Cairn and $5k match from Gear Fix. Cairn, best known for its outdoor subscription boxes, partnered with the Bend-based repair and consignment shop, Gear Fix, to launch the Gear Up, Give Back program in 2018.

The mission of the program is to keep retired gear out of landfills, help others get outdoors, and raise funds for outdoor causes. The program provides a free and easy way for anyone to donate their high-quality, well-loved gear. Unique incentive partnerships with ExpertVoice and Therm-a-Rest have helped drive awareness and gear donations throughout the year.

So far, the Gear Up, Give Back program:
  • Has kept 2000+ pieces of outdoor products out of landfills
  • Contributed more than $27k to the 2019 beneficiary, the Conservation Alliance, whose mission is to protect and restore America’s wild spaces.
Cairn and Gear Fix are thrilled to keep Gear Up, Give Back growing in the year ahead and share the 2020 program beneficiary organization: Outdoors for All, whose mission is to enrich the quality of life for children and adults with disabilities through outdoor recreation. “The Outdoors for All mission resonates really strongly with our team, as our passion lies in helping others discover the power of time outside,” shares Cairn Co-CEO, Rob Little.

Both Cairn and Gear Fix have again committed to matching $10k and $5k, respectively, of the program contribution to Outdoors for All for the year. The gear maintenance leader, Gear Aid, has joined the program as a 2020 brand sponsor and will match contributions up to $2.5k.

Anyone can order a Gear Up, Give Back Kit. Participants simply fill the included bag with outdoor gear or apparel they no longer use and place it in the mail (for free!). Gear Fix will make any necessary repairs to the items received and place them for sale in their shop. The net proceeds of each sale will be donated to Outdoors for All.
